Understanding the Threat of Emerging Flavivirus Zoonoses

Emerging Flaviviruses represent a growing threat to both animal and human health. Their increasing frequency is driven by several converging factors: intensified animal farming, expanding densely populated urban areas, global travel and trade, and climate change—particularly its impact on the distribution and behaviour of arthropod vectors. Our research explores the viral pathogenesis and immune responses in reservoir vertebrate hosts, mechanisms of viral adaptation across different hosts, and vector-free transmission routes. By deepening our understanding of these processes, we aim to better anticipate outbreaks and contribute to the development of more effective prevention and control strategies at the animal-human interface.
