Dendritic and monocytic cells of cattle
One initial milestone was the identification of DC subsets (cDC1, cDC2, pDC) in blood of cattle and their transcriptional delineation from monocytes.

These experiments paved the way for characterizing transcriptional re-programming of bovine DC subsets upon
in-vitro
stimulation.

By combining bulk-and scRNA-seq, we revealed functional specialization and heterogeneity of bovine monocyte subsets in blood.
Link to publication: Monocyte biology conserved across species: Functional insights from cattle
Our detailed scRNA-seq analysis of the mononuclear phagocyte system in bovine lymph node brought forward numerous hypotheses on differentiation trajectories and functional organization that likely represent features conserved across species.

We continue to phenotype bovine dendritic cells and monocytes in lymphoid and nonlymphoid tissues (

), and we engange in testing antibodies and recombinant proteins for phenotyping (

)
In a review article published in 2024, we provide an overview of phenotypic classifications in the bovine mononuclear phagocyte system.
