SRLV compartmentalization and transmission

With Giuliano Pisoni and Paolo Moroni (University of Milan. Italy) we studied the quasispecies distribution of SRLV in naturally infected goats. We observed a compartmentalization of sequences between peripheral blood cells and mammary glands. We studied the lactogenic transmission of these SRLV, describing a new genotype (A10) that is transmitted more efficiently than the classical B1 genotype. We showed that the spectrum of viral genotypes transmitted by lactogenic infections is broader and the efficiency of transmission greater compared to HIV and SIV.
