Humoral and cellular immunity to SRLV

SRLV infections are characterized by low viral loads and the role of the immune system in this respect is unclear. We analyzed the humoral and cellular immune response in infected goats. CAEV infection induces barely detectable neutralizing titers and we propose that the immunodominant linear B cell epitopes of Env that we mapped are used by SRLV as decoy antigens.

The cellular immune response also plays an ambiguous role, as demonstrated by an increase of the viral loads measured in animals vaccinated with a T cell epitope. (Collaboration G. Pancino, Institut Pasteur, Paris)
